Hey Cavs Fans!  You should be excited about today's Cavaliers Close-Up as we focused on Cleveland native V.J. King.  King attended LeBron's alma mater of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio for his freshman and sophomore seasons where he posted stats of 16 PPG and was an All-State and All-Conference selection.  For his junior and senior seasons, King transferred to Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, Virginia where he continued his dominance and greatly grew as a player.  As a McDonald's All-American his senior campaign, King averaged 22.9 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 2.5 APG, and 2.1 SPG.  Coming out of high school, King was the rated as the 23rd best player in the ESPN Top 100 and 26th by Rivals.com.

V.J. King will receive an increased role this upcoming season for the Louisville Cardinals, starting alongside Deng Adel following the departure of Donovan Mitchell, whom was drafted 13th by the Utah Jazz in the 2017 NBA Draft.  After watching King's film, it appears that he will likely find his niche in the NBA as a 3 and D type player.  He is a reliable shooter, shooting above 40 percent from beyond the arc and has also the ability to finish at the rim at was a 82.1% Free Throw shooter last season.  V.J. is definitely a terrific athlete, has great lateral quickness, agile enough to guard the majority of collegiate basketball players, but to be a NBA starting Small Forward he needs to add more mass as he currently just sits at 190 pounds.  Also, to be successful at the next level, King needs to become a better rebounder after averaging just 2 rebounds a game this past season.  My NBA Comparison for V.J. King would be DeMare Carroll of the Toronto Raptors.  Both are strong defenders and formidable shooters, although King may be more athletic and more of a driver than Carroll.  King will likely be a later first round pick if he declares for the 2018 NBA Draft and should the Cavs, his hometown and favorite team, keep their pick, their is a decent possibility that King will be available.  If King improves in his sophomore season, it wouldn't surprise me to see King as a late lottery pick, similar to where Donovan Mitchell was taken.  Most certainly, head coach Rick Pitino who has helped Louisville players such as Mitchell, Terry Rozier, Chinanu Onuaku, and Montrezl Harrell make the jump from college to the NBA, will be a big factor in King growth and grooming his game for NBA success.
